White House: Biden to Pardon Those Convicted of Simple Marijuana Possession

President Biden is planning to pardon all those who have been previously convicted of simple marijuana possession under federal law.

The President explained, “There are thousands of people who have prior federal convictions for marijuana possession, who may be denied employment, housing, or educational opportunities as a result. My action will help relieve the collateral consequences arising from these convictions.”

These pardons include those convicted of simple possession in the District of Columbia.

The White House is also urging governors to take similar action, where the pardons could benefit about 6,500 people. It should be noted there is nobody imprisoned at the federal level for simple marijuana possession.
