When first reported last month, OSHA announced they had levied COVID-19-related fines to 112 establishments, totaling $1,603,544 (through October 15, 2020). Just a week later, those totals had risen significantly to 144 establishments for $2,025,431 (increases of 32 establishments and $421,887 in fines, respectively). Despite the increases, the top fine-receiving “failures” remained as follows:
- to report a virus-related injury, illness or fatality
- to implement a written respiratory protection program
- to provide a medical evaluation, respirator fit test, training on proper respirator use (and/or personal protective equipment)
- to record an injury/illness on proper OSHA record keeping forms
- to comply with the General Duty Clause of OSHA’s 1970 Health Act
