With $322 Million collected, fiscal year 2019 became a record year for the recovery of unpaid employee compensation by the DOL’s Wage & Hour Division.
“These record-breaking numbers top the Department’s totals from last year, which also set records, and confirm our ongoing commitment to strong enforcement and to providing employers with the tools they need to comply with the law.” U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia.
Since 2014, the amount recovered by the DOL has continually increased.
The DOL also reported that more than half of the back wages were due to employers who failed to pay employees time-and-a-half for overtime when they worked more than 40 hours in a week.
