HRWS: DOL Announces OSHA’s Annual Civil Penalty Adjustments

department of Labor

On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, the U.S. Department of Labor issued a press release announcing their Annual Adjustments to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA’s) Civil Penalties. Both “less than serious” and “serious” violations are increasing. Less than serious violations will rise from $13,494 to $13,653 per instance. While, in cases of willful or repeat violations, penalties will increase from $134,973 to $136,532.

Annual increases come as a result of 2015’s Federal Civil Penalties Adjustment Improvements Act to advance the effectiveness of civil monetary penalties and to maintain their efficacy as a deterrent. New penalties must be adjusted by January 15 of each year.
