On February 10, 2021, the Coachella City Council (CA), approved instituting Hero Pay for farm workers, becoming the first city in the Nation to do so. With Hero Pay, employers are required to pay an extra $4 per hour to their employees for no less than the next 120 days. The emergency ordinance also includes the higher pay rate for employees of grocery stores, pharmacies and restaurants. The regulations apply to businesses with greater than 300 employees nationally or 5 locally.
