Federal Government Makes “Juneteenth” a National Holiday

On June 17, 2021, President Biden signed the bill officially making June 19th, or “Juneteenth,” the 12th federal holiday, the newest instituted to celebrate the end of slavery in America. The federal government has given employees the day off from work (Friday, June 18, 2021, as the 19th falls on Saturday this year) to honor the new holiday.

The Juneteenth National Independence Day Act was passed by The House on Wednesday, June 15, 2021. The Senate passed the legislation, a few days prior.
